Officer Cannon was riding as a passenger in a police unit that was attempting to overtake a speeder. The cars entered a construction area, where dust from the fleeing vehicle caused the police car to leave the roadway. The vehicle struck a utility pole and rolled. Officer Cannon was killed in the crash.
