Officer Bracken was fatally shot in a gun battle with two armed robbers who were stopped in a stolen car. Former convicts Danny Williams and William Hale were stopped in a stolen car shortly after robbing a service station west of Twin Falls. Williams was wounded in the stomach and Hale received a scalp wound in the gun battle.
