Lemhi County Sheriff's Deputy Louis Bancroft deputized Billy Withington along with Leonard Cummings to assist in the arrest of Ben Hamilton. All three men were shot and killed by Hamilton with a .30-.30 cal rifle. He was apprehended and shot the following day by a Sheriff’s Posse.
